Salvora Island: Property

Nowadays, the island is property of Marquis Revilla´s descendants, Joaquín Otero Goyanes, but it is under renting system, being the company Frinsa the beneficiary. Obviously, Sálvora also forms part of the parish Our Lady Carmen of Aguiño since 1959. Around the middle of the last century, this majestic piece of land belonged to the State; and the government submitted the possibility of sale to the condition of maintaining the property of all the buildings and works made by the Administration.

This way, the wharf area, the lighthouse and the main road remained under the State power and accesible for every citizen. Privacy prevents the island from the tourist invasion suffered by Cies and Ons, but is unavoidable to recommend a visit over these historic land that witnessed invader peoples raids for ten centuries, as well as the gradual settlement in this barbanza corner. Equally attractive is a submarine trip to admire the natural treasures hidden under water surface around the small islands nearby Salvora.

Sálvora was populated since second half of 19th century, but at the end of 60´s and at the beginning of 70´s next century, inhabitants were leaving little by little. In our days, the only inhabitants are the island guards, besides the Goyanes family members, after lighthouse-keepers left the island too in 1997 ( due to the placement of an electric system in lighthouse facilities that did not require a guard).
